FAQ
What IS a life coach, exactly?
Think of me as a midwife for your mental and emotional health.
As your coach, I will help you see your brain more clearly and learn the skill of thinking on purpose, so you can accomplish anything you want in life.
The only reason you aren’t finishing that memoir, or producing that webseries, or speaking out against something you believe is wrong, or finding an amazing partner (or two!) is because of what you are currently thinking.
I help you uncover your thoughts so you can change your life with ease.
Do I need a life coach?
As your coach, I have one job only: to help you reach your goals. Whether your goals are to stop criticizing yourself, improve a relationship, write a screenplay, or create a revolution, I am here to facilitate the growth necessary for you to make your dreams a reality and live a richer, more joyful life.
What is a life coaching session with you like?
Think of me as your greatest advocate – even, when needed, on behalf of you against your own internalized patterns of negative self-talk and self-criticism.
In a session, you can share any challenge, goal, obstacle, or anything else you are struggling with or would like to work towards.
Together, we will collaboratively explore how you are currently relating to a challenge or goal, and work together to relate to it in a new way that will help you access the answers within you. Yes, I’m aware “the answers within” sounds like a cheesy coming of age romance novel, but that doesn’t make it any less true!
I will lead you through a series of conversations and exercises that will help bring greater awareness to how you’re thinking – and then we will collaboratively create your future. This will basically seem like a normal conversation with a very curious person who thinks you’re the most interesting human in the world – because you are!
Logistically, sessions are typically 45 minutes and take place once a week over Zoom video chat (if you prefer to use audio only for our sessions, that’s totally fine – just let me know!). Just like with any physical training commitment, the best results come with time. That’s why I usually recommend committing to 3 or more months of working with me.
What is a life coaching session with you NOT like?
I will never tell you what you should or should not do, what decision you should or should not make, except to help you brainstorm how to move closer to goals that you yourself have identified.
I will never judge or shame you for anything you share with me.
My only agenda for you is to always guide you toward a place of greater self-love and acceptance. If you’re looking for someone to yell at you for not following a food protocol, I’m not your coach…or maybe I’m the PERFECT coach for you, because I will challenge all the assumptions that underscore your belief that yelling at yourself is necessary to achieve anything in life.
I will, however, help you achieve any goal from a place of love and compassion for yourself – and I promise that anything you think you can only accomplish through self-recrimination, judgment, and willpower – you will accomplish exponentially faster when you are coming from a place of self-love and acceptance.
What if I say or do the wrong thing?
Not possible! The entire purpose of life coaching – and particularly my brand of causal coaching – is that we take an honest look at your current behavior and explore the root cause of anything you are doing or not doing in your life.
There is no pressure on you to say or do the “right” thing, because there is no right or wrong to this process. There is only more knowledge, information, and awareness for us to learn from.
That said, if you ever find yourself judging your progress or thinking that you’re “doing it wrong,” know that you’re not alone. It is very common for clients to judge themselves…and this is particularly true if you tend to judge yourself in other areas of your life.
If you have perfectionist tendencies and criticize yourself a lot, then I recommend bringing that work into our first sessions so we can reframe your relationship to coaching, together.
How can I set myself up for success?
Simply showing up and being present, honest, and open every week will change your life.
Because we will do a deep dive into some personal topics, I recommend that you approach life coaching as an act of radical self-care by giving yourself the space and time to show up to our sessions uninterrupted, in a quiet, private space where you can speak freely.
I understand that everybody’s living situation is different, especially in the time of Covid! Do your best and we will work together with whatever situation you’re in.
Will you give me a concrete plan to achieve my goal?
The short answer is: Yes, we can absolutely develop a concrete action plan as a part of our work together.
The slightly longer answer is that you already have exactly what you need to succeed beyond your wildest imaginings. You just need to learn how to apply your own experience, knowledge, wisdom, and skills to create a plan to achieve your goals.
That’s where I come in – to ask powerful questions that will help you turn your obstacles into a roadmap.
Do I need to prepare for our sessions?
No preparation is needed! I’ll lead the sessions fully – all I ask is that you show up on time and ready to dive in with me!
If you have something specific you’d like to work on, feel free to share that in advance. Otherwise, just show up every week and I’ll take care of the rest.
