Everyone is creative

Everyone is creative.

Even if you don’t identify as an artist.

Look around you.

That end table? You have created that.

You had the thought “I want something to set my tea on.”
You felt committed or confident.
You looked on Craigslist or went to Ikea or talked to a woodworker.
Exchanged money for goods, et voila: End table.

Your breakfast?

Same dealio:
You thought “I’m hungry.”
You felt certain.
You made some eggs and ate them.

Creativity is not mysterious.

It’s literally all around us.

The more you habituate yourself to seeing your everyday creativity, the more you will mistrust your brain when it says “I don’t know how to write a novel” or “I’m not talented enough to audition for that” or “I’m not a good enough at drawing to be a visual artist.”

You do, and you are.

Writing is just listening and communicating.

Acting is just embodying and connecting.

Visual arts are just exploring colors, shapes, and textures.

You are an expert at these things.

You’ve been doing them your whole life.

Just look at all the evidence.
